The Roman Catholic Church of St. Hedwig is located in Exter , a district of the East Westphalian town of Vlotho in the Herford district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The Church of St. Hedwig belongs to the parish Heilig Kreuz (Vlotho) and thus to the pastoral area WerreWeser of the Dean's Office Herford-Minden in the Archdiocese of Paderborn . The church is named after St. Hedwig von Andechs .
history
The St. Hedwig Church was built between 1977 and 1978 on Solterbergstrasse. On February 3, 1978, the church was consecrated by Auxiliary Bishop Paul Nordhues . The new church building replaced an emergency church in the valley of the Exterbach , which had been used as a makeshift solution since 1950 .
architecture
The church, built in half-timbered style with bricks, has a gable roof with dormers . On the east side, a copper-clad bell tower with a pent roof and a cross is added. A community center is integrated within the building.
Furnishing
The altar , tabernacle and ambo in the church interior are made with sacred motifs using the metal casting process. There is a relic of the canonized Maria Katharina Kasper on the altar . A large, wooden crucifix , carved in Oberammergau in the 1950s , is mounted above the altar . The fifteen stations of the cross are shown in the side wings of the church . The church organ dates from 1984.
