St. Laurentius (Unterwaldbehrungen)
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Laurentius is a church in the Bavarian Unterwaldbehrungen , a district of the municipality of Bastheim in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld . It is one of the architectural monuments in Bastheim and is registered under the number D-6-73-116-40 in the Bavarian Monument List . Unterwaldbehrungen is part of the Besengau parish community .
The church is dedicated to Saint Lawrence of Rome .
history
Before the construction of today's St. Laurentius Church, there was a previous building with a choir tower from the 15th century. When this church was deemed dilapidated in 1612, a new building was necessary.
In 1616, today's St. Laurentius Church was built by adding a nave to the choir tower of the previous church ; the superstructure dates from 1716. In 1939 and 1987 the church was renovated.
description
The church consists of the eastern choir tower with arched sound windows and a Welscher hood and the nave with three window axes . The choir has a groin vault and a pointed arched window with tracery on the south side. It is separated from the nave by a pointed choir arch . The windows of the nave are also ogival with tracery.
Furnishing
On the eastern wall of the choir, instead of a high altar, there is a Pietà under a canopy . Stone figures of the church patron Laurentius (left) and the Immaculata (right) replace the side altars . On the north wall there is a figure of Our Lady with a child. The font is in the aisle. The organ is placed on the western double gallery . On the ceiling of the nave you can see the central painting of the Holy Trinity and corner medallions of the four evangelists .
