Today's view of the castle with the chapel

St. Magdalena is the palace chapel in Planegg Palace in the Upper Bavarian community of Planegg in the Munich district and a branch of St. Elisabeth .

history

A previous building of this chapel is mentioned for the first time in a deed of donation from Duke Wilhelm III. to his illegitimate son Konrad von Egenhofen in 1425. The chapel received that of Maria Magdalena as patronage . Between 1610 and 1613 the chapel was moved to its present location by the new owner of the castle, Hans Georg Lung, but it was not consecrated. In 1617, in the course of the palace renovation, the chapel was also designed in a dignified manner so that it could be consecrated on November 9, 1617. Shortly before 1737, Johann Baptist von Ruffin had the chapel generously expanded through renovations so that it received its present size. The tower, which is still the landmark of Planegg today, was also redesigned in baroque style. Some renovations were carried out in 1791 and 1833. After the National Socialists had occupied the castle and billeting was carried out after the war , the entire chapel had to be completely overhauled by 1969. Like the whole castle, the chapel is not open to the public. The only exception is if there is a service there once a month.
