Sankt Maria Königin is a Roman Catholic parish church in Sankt Augustin-Ort ( Rhein-Sieg-Kreis ) in North Rhine-Westphalia . It belongs to the Catholic pastoral care area Sankt Augustin in the Rhein-Sieg district dean of the Archdiocese of Cologne .

history

Sankt Augustin-Ort was only created at the beginning of the 20th century on the road from Beuel to Siegburg . A significant step in the development was the construction of the St. Augustin Monastery of the Steyler Missionaries in 1913, after which the town of Sankt Augustin and the district of Sankt Augustin-Ort were named after the regional reform of 1969 . To this day the monastery is closely connected with the parish. Due to Bonn's status as the federal capital , the population grew rapidly from 1949, so that on November 10, 1954 the parish of St. Maria Königin was founded. The construction of the parish church began with the laying of the foundation stone on June 30, 1957. The church building was completed in 1958 and was consecrated on July 28, 1959 by Auxiliary Bishop Wilhelm Cleven . The architects of the building were Hanns Walter Lückerath and Helene Lückerath in Horrem .

St. Maria Königin is a hall church with a conical floor plan. Above the entrance to the nave is the free-standing bell tower made of reinforced concrete .

Furnishing

The following fixtures and fittings in the church are protected as movable monuments: a crescent moon Madonna from 1480, a Pietà and two baroque candlesticks (both around 1700), a silk carpet depicting the crucifixion of Jesus from the end of the 19th century and an Annunciation group made up of four individual sculptures (around 1700) 1710).
