The Evangelical Lutheran village church of St. Mary is a church in the district Adelhausen the community Straufhain in Hildburghausen in Thuringia .

history

The choir tower church , at least the second church building at this point, was built by the Heßberg family in 1484, according to an inscription on the west side . In 2000 the parish received funding from the German Foundation for Monument Protection .

Architecture and equipment

The church tower measures four meters square. The upper floor is clad with slate. The tower has a pointed hood , a tower clock and a weather vane .

The nave is eleven meters long and 7.5 meters wide. The facade is designed with naturally colored types of stone. At the church, the kerbstones are generally provided with pincer holes. A sundial is still indicated. The year 1484 is carved on the west side of the entrance. Around 1970 frescoes from the time the church was built were uncovered. They are located above the pulpit , the choir arch and on the sides of the galleries . A figure of Mary with the baby Jesus was also exposed underneath .

There are two bronze bells in the tower. The small bell is from 1484, the larger one was cast in Coburg in 1764 .
