Former St. Martin Church (2013)

The St. Martin Church was the Catholic church in Lutter am Barenberge in the Goslar district in Lower Saxony . Most recently it belonged to the parish of St. Marien with its seat in Salzgitter-Bad in the Goslar-Salzgitter Dean's Office of the Diocese of Hildesheim . The church dedicated to St. Martin of Tours was located at Dr.-Heinrich-Jasper-Straße 7. The nearest Catholic church is St. Abdon and Sennen in Salzgitter-Ringelheim, eight kilometers away .

history

On July 24, 1946, the Lutter parish vicarie, which comprised around 800 Catholics, was set up; in addition to Lutter, it included the villages of Bodenstein , Nauen , Neuwallmoden , Ostlutter and Upen . Until the church was consecrated, services were held in the hall of an inn on Frankfurter Strasse. In 1955 Lutter became a subsidiary of the parish in Salzgitter-Ringelheim, and the number of Catholics had meanwhile dropped to around 500. A first church building plan from that year, to build a church on Bahnhofstrasse, was not implemented.

In 1958 a house on Dr.-Heinrich-Jasper-Straße was bought and the church was built on the rear of the property in 1960/61. Their benediction took place on September 24, 1961 . Some sources erroneously state 1955 or 1971 as the year of construction. From November 1, 2006, the church belonged to the parish of St. Marien in Salzgitter-Bad, previously it was a branch church of the Ringelheim parish of St. Abdon and Sennen . From July 1, 2007, the church belonged to the then newly established deanery Goslar – Salzgitter, previously it belonged to the deanery Salzgitter.

On December 9th, 2008 the church was profaned by Vicar General Werner Schreer , later sold. At that time, only just under 200 Catholics belonged to the catchment area of the church.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built according to the plans of the architect Lipsmeier and was about 160 meters above sea level . On its north side was a small wooden tower built in 1999 with a bell . On the back wall of the chancel was a crucifix , underneath the tabernacle . In the interior, to the left and right of the main entrance, there was a representation of St. Martin and a statue of Mary.
