The church

The Protestant village church St. Nikolai is located in the municipality of Langenleuba-Niederhain in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

history

The Romanesque complex is splendidly furnished. The eastern part with the tower dates from the 12th century. The nave was built in the 16th century, the galleries and the entrance on the north side in the 18th century.

The ornate altar in the middle of the choir square is the oldest part of the church , hovering above a Renaissance - angel figure . The font was created by a carver Gleitsmann in 1866.

The organ was installed by the Ladegast company in 1903. The galleries are splendidly painted, as is the ceiling and the choir of the nave.

The two large bells of the church were melted down during World War II . Only the small bronze bell from 1829 remained in the tower. In 1954 bells made of chilled cast iron were supplied as replacements.

In 1985 an extensive interior and exterior renovation and re-opening took place. In recent years the church has been equipped with an electric tower clock and electric bells, as well as a bench heater. The organ was also restored.
