St. Nikolai (Lichtenhain)
The village church of St. Nikolai is in the Lichtenhain district of the city of Jena in Thuringia .

The village church in Lichtenhain is located on a slope above the western Saale valley . It has an enclosure wall with loopholes and is located at a source . In the east is the village pond. The terrain slopes sharply on both sides.
history
This Protestant parish church was a fortified church . The west tower has a hipped roof and the hall church has a gable roof . The building was originally built at the end of the 12th century as a Romanesque church with a tower and parts of the nave, which was expanded around 1300. The sacristy is from 1500 . It is located on the north side of the choir and has two windows with the inscription 1506 . A cycle of murals dating from around 1420 has been partially preserved on the northern outer wall . This Bible for the poor originally consisted of 78 pictures and depicts scenes from the Old and New Testament . A baroque pulpit altar was built in in 1723, a renovation took place in 1895 and in 1968 the furnishings were renewed in keeping with the spirit of the times.

- The bells were 1801 1696 and 1771 by the company rose from Volkstedt and one from Apolda acquired
- The baroque altar was erected in 1723
- The organ was bought in 1881 for 2,350 marks
