The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Nikolaus is located in the Roschütz district of the independent city of Gera in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Pölzig in the parish of Gera the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

In 1401 Roschütz, which up to that time was subordinate to the neighboring village of Röpsen , received its church independence through Bishop Ulrich von Naumburg and the patronage was granted to the "donors Nickel and Berchter von Schauroth and their descendants". With the elevation to the parish, the medieval chapel, consecrated to Saints Wenceslas , Pankratius and Nicholas , was expanded into a single-nave church. Parts of the masonry in the tower substructure still date from this time. From 1701 to 1703 a thorough renovation took place: An octagonal tower with a double hood was erected over the choir room with a square floor plan and cross vault and the dilapidated nave was rebuilt. The current external shape of the church comes from this time. In the course of a redesign of the interior in 1846, among other things, the church stalls as a bench block in the middle and paved corridors in the nave, the sermon pulpit and two three-sided galleries were built. In this context, the original altarpiece, which depicts the raising of Lazarus , is also mentioned. The year 1908 marks a further turning point in terms of a reconstruction of the church interior and exterior: The organ was removed from the choir and got its new place on the west gallery and the second gallery was expanded. In addition, a south porch, today's entrance, and a north stair tower were added. After the First World War, the parish Roschütz was affiliated to the Superintendentur Gera. The last comprehensive renovation and repair took place from 1985 to 1989. This includes the renewal of the drainage system and the interior plaster as well as a new color scheme for the wooden elements under the direction of Kurt Thümmler . On January 1, 2012, the community of Roschütz was united with Röpsen , Dorna and Pölzig to form a parish that is part of the northern region of the Superintendentur Gera .

Interior

Inside, the dark brown of the paneled ceiling and the wooden gallery dominate the room. Together with the subdued light falling through the stained glass windows depicting biblical scenes, a warm and dim atmosphere is created, which emulates the style of the late 19th century. From the mid-1970s to 2005, the late Gothic winged altar was relocated from the Tinzer St. Margaret's Church to Roschütz and placed in the choir with its remarkable Gothic cross vault. The alabaster epitaph of the von Schauroth family on the north wall is also noteworthy.

With the renovation in 1908, the church received its current stained glass windows. The south side of the nave is adorned with seven windows on two levels:

organ

The Roschütz Church houses an organ that can still be played today from Ernst Röver's organ building workshop in Hausneindorf in the Quedlinburg district . The instrument, built in 1908, has 13 registers with four couplers . Before 1908 there was a Poppe organ from 1814 in the Roschütz church .
