St. Nikolaus (Daxberg)
The Catholic branch church St. Nikolaus is located in Daxberg , a district of the community of Erkheim in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The church is a listed building .
History and description of the building
The oldest part of the church is probably the late medieval lower area of the church tower . The nave of the church was built in the 17th century . The church was consecrated in 1710 and renovated in 1952.
The nave has a flat ceiling inside and consists of two axes. The semicircular closed choir adjoins this through a round choir arch . The choir consists of a window axis and a stitch cap vault at the end of the choir. The choir yoke has a groin vault , which rests on Tuscan pilasters . The outer facade of the choir is structured with pilasters. The north side of the nave is also structured with pilasters in front of blind arches. There are coupled pilasters on the south and west facade.
In the church there is a gallery on the west side. The gallery is supported by bulged wooden pillars. The tower is located in the northern choir angle and with a gable roof covered. The church tower contains corner pilasters over the entire height. The two upper floors are divided by cornices. Coupled sound arcades are located on three sides on the top floor of the tower.
Furnishing
The high altar is a marbled wooden structure and dates from 1710. In the cafeteria there is a rotating niche tabernacle from the middle of the 18th century. It has scroll patterns and concave side parts. The altarpiece shows Madonna with the fourteen helpers in need . This is flanked by three-quarter columns. The box-shaped extension of the high altar represents the Holy Family in a group of figures.
There are some wooden figures in the church. From the 18th century this is a representation of a female saint. The depiction of St. Sebastian dates from the second quarter of the 18th century . In 1520 the two figures of Saint Nicholas and St. Martin created.
