D St. Nikolaus is a Roman Catholic parish church in Schleiden , municipality of Aldenhoven in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The church is dedicated to St. Nikolaus von Myra and was built between 1952 and 1953 according to plans by.

history

A church in Schleiden is mentioned for the first time in 1310. This was rebuilt or completely rebuilt in the 16th century. In 1836 Schleiden becomes an independent parish, before that the place belonged to the parish of St. Martin Aldenhoven . A new church was built around 1862, but the old tower from the 16th century was retained. This presumably neo-Gothic church was completely destroyed by an air mine on August 30 or 31, 1943 due to the Second World War . From 1952 to 1953 a new, two-aisled modern church was finally built. It was solemnly inaugurated on April 26, 1953 by the Aachen Bishop Johannes Joseph van der Velden .

Building description

St. Nikolaus is a two-aisled, flat-roofed brick church with a rectangular choir in the east. The tower is on the side in front of the aisle. The arcades between the side and main aisles are round-arched, as are the windows. The west facade is characterized by the large rose window .

Furnishing

The church has modern furnishings from the 1950s. Mention should be made of the high altar and the simple pulpit from this period. The windows were created by Walther Hugo Brenner and Ernst Jansen-Winkeln in 1956. The Brenner windows have circular ornaments, Jansen-Winkeln created a three-part window for the baptistery. The resurrection of Christ and the three women at the abandoned grave are depicted.

Bells

In the bell tower there is a ringing made of four bronze bells from three different bell founders .
