The church

The Protestant village church of St. Peter and Paul is located in the Großobringen district of the Am Ettersberg rural community in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia . The parish belongs to the parish association Großobringen in the parish of Weimar of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

location

In the middle of the village stands the church with a wall that surrounds the cemetery , west of federal highway 85 on a raised level.

history

The church was built around 1431. Arched windows and niches indicate a previous Romanesque building. The rectangular nave with a polygonal closed choir and sacristy extension at the north corner confirms the premonition. Inside was restored in 1934. The church tower is in need of renovation today.

The altar was replaced in 1938 by a baroque altar from the Schwarzburg castle chapel .

The organ

The organ by the organ builder Gerhard from Dorndorf dates from 1820.

The Luther picture

The Goethe painter Johann Joseph Schmeller, born in Großobringen, painted a picture of Luther in the Cranach manner for the church.
