The Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul is a Gothic church in the Oberbuch district of Tyrlaching in the Upper Bavarian district of Altötting . As a branch church, it belongs to the parish of St. John the Baptist Tyrlaching in the Kirchweidach parish of the Diocese of Passau .

History and architecture

The two-aisled hall church was built in the middle of the 15th century as a tuff square construction on an original floor plan with a central pillar (similar to the church in Burgkirchen am Wald ). Adjacent to the nave are the two-bay choir with three-eighth end and the high west tower from the end of the 14th century, which is slightly set into the west wall. On the west side of the tower there is an additional garment; the end of the tower is formed by a late baroque, clapboard-covered double onion hood over a plaster cornice. The choir, structured by external buttresses, is lower than the nave. A walled-in round window can be seen on the south side next to the sacristy .

The southern vestibule is closed by a reticulated vault. A Gothic portal with a rod and throat and a straight section above it opens up the building. The oak door has Gothic hinges. The interior was renovated in 1959 and 2001, and the exterior in 1988. The choir's reticulated vault is provided with grooved ribs over wall templates and round services. The central pillar is octagonal and has a reticulated vault over fluted wall pillars, which divide the nave into two whole, east and west into two half bays each.

Furnishing

The altars are works of the 17th century with artistically valuable figurines. The high altar has a blown gable and winding columns and shows a masterfully designed Madonna figure with an elegant posture in the middle shrine, which probably dates from the middle of the 17th century. It is flanked by more rustic carved figures of Saints Peter and Paul from the end of the 15th century, in the altar extract is a figure of Saint Michael as a soul weigher with a flaming sword. The antependium is decorated with ribbon carvings from around 1740. The middle altar and the ambo were created in 2002 based on designs by Johannes R. Potzler from Munich.

In the north side altar there is an artistically significant group of figures with a representation of Our Lady on clouds and a crescent moon, which is framed by carved medallions of the mysteries of the rosary . It shows how Mary hands rosaries to the kneeling Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena . In Altar extract figures of the saints are James and Bartholomew to find from the early 16th century. The corresponding, expressive angel figures belong to the 17th century.

In the south side altar there is a carved figure of the risen Christ from the beginning of the 16th century with a protective cloak Madonna in the excerpt, flanked by Saints Rupert and Virgil , both from the 15th century, above Saint Blaise . A representation of the Last Supper is placed on the door of the tabernacle .

Large, gilded carved figures of Saints Barbara and Catherine from the 17th century are arranged in the choir . Two former altar wings on the north wall from around 1500 show Saint Oswald with a bird and orb, Saint Vitus with an oil barrel, Henry the Saint with an orb and scepter and Saint Lawrence with a cross and book.

In the nave there are small carved figures of Saints Johann Nepomuk from the second half of the 18th century and Sebastian from the end of the 15th century. The crucifix in the choir arch is a work of the second half of the 17th century. The lower part of the double wooden gallery was built in 1676, the upper part was added when the organ was installed in the 19th century. Reliefs of Saints Andrew and Paul can be found under the gallery .

Three medieval bells of the church from 1434, 1487 and 1520 escaped delivery in the Second World War and were thus preserved.
