history

Choir
Choir room

The building made of yellow and pink sandstone was erected from around 1150 when the construction of a choir tower began, which is now a side chapel of the south transept. The crossing and bell tower was raised in Gothic style from 1286 . The construction site started with the apse , and this part of the building still has the richest sculptural decoration.

During the French Revolution , some of the sculptures were chipped or damaged.

description

The interior of the church is small and simple and is particularly effective due to the well-proportioned spatial impression and the well-thought-out contrast of broad cuboids and narrow stones in the wall. The main interior decoration is the skillfully carved column capitals , including the famous "head capital", which has 21 different physiognomies.

organ

The organ is a specialty . It was built in 1733 by Andreas Silbermann . The instrument originally stood on an organ stand and originally had 25 stops on three manuals and a pedal . The instrument has been restored and repaired several times over the years. In 1859 the organ stand was removed and the instrument by Joseph Stiehr was repositioned on the south wall of the choir room, whereby a manual was also omitted and the layout was permanently changed. In 1935 the organ was last revised by Jean Lapreste, Joseph Rinckenbach's successor. Today the instrument has 20 stops on two manuals and a pedal.
