The St. Peterskirche an der Brücke is a baroque church building in the Dorndorf district of the Dornburg-Camburg community in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Dorndorf-Eckolstädt in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

location

The church used to stand on an old bridge over the Saale , hence the name. The later, more modern bridges are a little further north towards Camburg .

history

The church was built in 1725–1727 in place of a previous church that had been damaged by fire. The church tower stands on the foundation walls of a medieval watchtower and defense tower .

Architecture and equipment

The galleries are accessible from the outside. Four paintings painted over in 1890 and restored between 1969 and 1972 decorate the wooden barrel vault . A baroque braid style altar is in the hall. To the left of the pulpit is the wooden baptismal angel with a baptismal bowl in hand from 1753.

The gallery on the second of organ builder Johann Christian Gerhard Adam built organ was restored in 1993/94.
