St. Sebastian (Dienstädt)
The village church of St. Sebastian is located in the Dienstädt district of Eichenberg in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Orlamünde in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
Location and exterior view
The village church is visible from afar in the center of the small village. It bears the character of a fortified church, which is particularly evident in the massive tower and the strong surrounding wall of the church grounds.
history
The monastery of Fulda has counted properly Dien Städt already 876 to his possession. The layout of the church from the 13th century can be seen on the vault of the square room between the current choir and nave .
In the late Gothic period, the current chancel with its pointed arched windows was expanded . The nave was given its present form in the 17th century. The upper tower was built in 1787. The door on the west side was made in 1997 according to listed specifications. In 1736 an organ was purchased from Gerhardt from Lindig . It was renovated in 2007 and can be used again after it has been consecrated.
Above the pulpit a is relief from Alabaster affixed, the worship of the three ways is. In 1510 and 1573 the winged altar was installed, which either comes from a school in Saalfeld or from the Zwickau master Hans Witten . The painting is in the style of Lucas Cranach and is reminiscent of his Johannes altar, which was created for the church in Neustadt / Orla in 1513 . The altar was restored between 1993 and 1996.
The baptismal font comes from the Gothic period from the 19th century. For a time it served as a water trough for a local family. After the fall of the Wall , the church was extensively restored.
