St. Stephan (Weidenberg)
St. Stephan is an Evangelical Lutheran cemetery church in the Upper Franconian market town of Weidenberg .
The Stephanskirche was first mentioned in a document in 1415. While the church of St. Michael am Gurtstein was initially part of the former castle, St. Stephan served the population as a parish church . Because of its location and the surrounding cemetery, St. Stephan developed into a cemetery church. The church, cemetery wall and two children's grave slabs from the 17th century are under monument protection .
The special features of the interior include the Künsberg altar from 1661, which is attributed to the artist Johann Georg Schlehendorn, and a pulpit in the margrave style . The central object is a crucifix , which is surrounded by vine tendrils that arise from the hill of Golgotha . Figures of the donor couple kneel as life-size full sculptures in contemporary clothing to the left and right of the cross; the knight Johann Ludwig von Künsberg wears armor . An arch with 17 coats of arms arches around the cross. A wooden epitaph commemorates Anna Magdalena von Sparneck . In 1999, wall paintings were uncovered in the church.
