The Roman Catholic Church of St. Stephan is located in Schlegelsberg , a district of the community of Erkheim in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The church is a listed building and was built in the 15th century. The sacristy is a modern extension.

Building description

The church is a plastered hall building. The nave has a flat ceiling and contains three window axes. On the outside of the nave and the choir there are corner pilaster strips . The retracted choir is connected to the nave by a pointed choir arch. The choir consists of a yoke and a 5/8 end . It is covered with a star-ribbed vault, which rests on disc keystones on pyramid brackets. The church tower is in the northern choir corner. The basement of the church tower is not structured, the upper floors, however, are divided by wall strips and provided with corner pilasters. On the east and south side there are coupled sound arcades on the top floor of the tower , on the north side there are arched windows with intermediate supports.

Furnishing

The interior of the church is neo-Gothic and dates from 1866 to 1869. There are several wooden figures in the church. The depictions of St. Joachim and St. Anna . A crucifix with Mary and John dates from the 16th century. However, the representation of Mary is likely to be a more recent replica.
