history

The exact age of the St. Trinity Church in Camburg has not yet been determined. Whether it is the church, which was subordinated to the Cistercian monastery in Eisenberg as a market church in 1219 , has not yet been sufficiently investigated. Due to the topographical situation Rathaus-Markt-Marktkirche, a location east of the Saale can be assumed.

The oldest structural elements are Gothic and date back to the 15th century. According to some historians, the church was consecrated to Saint Lawrence of Rome in Catholic times . However, this assumption only refers to the figure in the city arms. There is no documentary evidence of the patronage of St. Lawrence. For the period from the Reformation to the rededication in the 18th century, the church had no name.

Most of the nave and the tower were probably rebuilt around 1520. After a fire, the damage was structurally repaired in 1703–1708. The Gothic choir was abandoned and restored in baroque form. The name Trinitatiskirche comes from this time. In 1897–99 the tower and ground floor were regotized. The cross vault , like the late Gothic windows and sound openings from 1520, was preserved on the upper floors.

The interior with the three-sided gallery is largely neo-Gothic. The pulpit altar created by the sculptor Friedrich Philipp Puppert and painter Johann Friedrich Lindner was carved in 1712. In addition, figurative allegories of the fighting and victorious church are shown. The final picture shows Christ , angels and putti .

Further components are the baptismal font , the crucifixion relief and a late Gothic sacristy niche . A life-size crucifix from the 16th century is depicted above the entrance to the tower hall .

Others

A community center and the parish grounds are attached to the church.
