Church of St. Vitus in Erlingshofen

The Catholic branch church St. Vitus in Erlingshofen , a district of the municipality of Tapfheim in the district of Donau-Ries in the administrative district of Swabia ( Bavaria ), was originally built in the Middle Ages . The church consecrated to St. Vitus is a protected architectural monument .

history

The square tower substructure is the remainder of a Romanesque choir tower church . Presumably the tower was raised by the octagon with a pointed helmet at the end of the 16th century . In 1715/16 a new nave and a new choir were built by Melchior Pfefferle . The letters "RAZK" notched into a support beam provide information about the builder of the church: Rogerius I. Röls , abbot of the Cistercians of the Kaisheim monastery .

architecture

The south-facing building has a flat roof and a retracted choir closed on three sides. The frescoes were created by Gotthard Bauer in 1922 . According to local tradition, the main picture is relocated to the “Grieben” corridor, two of the children shown and the farmer couple can be associated with the inhabitants of that time.

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic altars were built around 1880. A Lady of wood, which is dated around 1420, is the most valuable piece of equipment. The figures of St. Joseph and Mary were made around 1725, the sculptures of Rochus and Johannes Nepomuk are from around 1720.
