The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Vitus (also St. Veit ) in Gammelsdorf in the Upper Bavarian district of Freising belongs to the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

History and description of the building

The Gammelsdorf St. Vitus Church was built in 1880/81 on the site of a previous building in neo -Gothic style by the master builder Johann Baptist Niedereder. It is a brick building that is supposed to remind of the late Gothic churches of the so-called "Landshut School".

The hall church with retracted choir and a tower on the north side has a uniform interior. The altar and pulpit were created in the workshop of the Munich architect Joseph Elsner . The parapet of the west gallery is designed as a tracery . On the back of the altar is a painting from the previous church. It dates from the first half of the 19th century and represents St. Veit and his parents. The sculptures of hll also come from the previous church. Florian and Johannes d. T., which are dated to the 18th century, as well as the wooden reliefs with the 15 secrets of the rosary from the first half of the 19th century.

The 1,880 glass windows, created to show the peak window inclusion of Sts. Vitus in heaven, the sermon and martyrdom of the saint are depicted in the side windows. Below are scenes from the battle of Gammelsdorf and the coats of arms of the Bavarian cities involved in the battle.
