Location of the community of Gammelsdorf in the Freising district
Gammelsdorf (Bavarian: Gammaschdaf ) is a municipality in the Upper Bavarian district of Freising .
geography
location
The place Gammelsdorf is about ten kilometers north of Moosburg an der Isar and 15 kilometers west of Landshut on the southeastern edge of the Hallertau . These two cities can be reached much faster than the district town of Freising , which is 23 kilometers to the south-east. The municipality thus forms the north-eastern cornerstone of the Freising district and already borders the communities of Bruckberg , Obersüßbach and Volkenschwand in the neighboring Lower Bavarian districts of Landshut and Kelheim . The municipality is part of the planning region of Munich , where it is an exception as a rural structured and rather sparsely populated municipality.
Community structure
The municipality has 27 officially named municipal parts (the type of settlement is given in brackets ):

history
Until the church is planted
The exact date of Gammelsdorf's creation is not known. However, it is likely to coincide with that of the neighboring villages of Rehbach and Reichersdorf , which were demonstrably settled as early as 780. The first written evidence of the place comes from 1075 and names the place Gamanolvesdorf . Gammelsdorf is best known for the Battle of Gammelsdorf on November 9, 1313. At that time, Ludwig the Bavarian defeated his cousin, Duke Friedrich of Austria, in the battle for supremacy in the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation .
Since 1818
Gammelsdorf became an independent political municipality in the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria in 1818. In 1842 a neo-Gothic monument was erected on Moosburger Strasse, commemorating the battle of Gammelsdorf. It is also remembered at the annual meeting of monarchists in Gammelsdorf. The administrative community of Mauern , to which the municipality of Gammelsdorf also belongs, was founded on May 1, 1978.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1971, part of the dissolved community of Reichersdorf was incorporated. On May 1, 1978 parts of the dissolved communities Enghausen and Margarethenried were added.
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the community grew from 1,057 to 1,469 by 412 inhabitants or 39%.

coat of arms
Blazon : "In blue a vertical silver lance growing from the lower edge of the shield, topped with a golden crossbow bolt and a golden morning star."
Lance, bolt and morning star are reminiscent of the battle of Gammelsdorf ; the lance stands for the knights, bolts and morning star are symbolic of the foot troops that made a decisive contribution to Ludwig's victory. Silver and blue are reminiscent of the Wittelsbach and Bavarian colors.

Culture
The live club Circus achieved national fame in the mid-1970s to mid-1990s because of its concerts. The location, which was originally operated as a cinema and café, was allegedly the "world's first country art house cinema". In 1994 the bar was burned and was not allowed to be rebuilt. By 2018 found in Gammelsdorf with the night parade on the evening of Shrove Monday a well-known over a wide area Faschingsumzug instead.
