The place Wang was mentioned for the first time in 783. Bergen, mentioned in 722 as "Perge", and Thulbach (mentioned in 754) are older.

The area of ​​today's municipality belonged to the office or rule of Isareck in the Baierischen district court Moosburg . The rule probably came to the Wittelsbachers via the Counts of Moosburg . The present castle was built between 1559 and 1570 by the Moosburg master builder Asmus Hälmayr for Duke Albrecht V as a four-wing complex and has been owned by Count La Rosée since 1824. Wang became, as well as the current parts of the municipality Schweinersdorf, Inzkofen and Volkmannsdorferau, an independent political municipality in the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria in 1818.

In the 2020 mayor election, Markus Stöber (WWV) was elected as the new mayor in the runoff election. He prevailed against Josef Schwaiger (FWI) with 59.4% of the votes cast and thus became the successor to the mayor Hans Eichinger, who had been in office since 2008 and who no longer stood for reasons of age.
