St. Vitus (Heeslingen)
The St. Viti Church is the church building of the Evangelical Lutheran parish Heeslingen ( Kirchenkreis Bremervörde-Zeven , Sprengel Stade ). The church is dedicated to St. Vitus . It is probably the oldest church building in the Elbe-Weser triangle .
history
Heeslingen Monastery was founded around 961 . The church, a field stone building in the Romanesque style , was also built at this time . In 1141 the monastery was moved to Zeven ( Kloster Zeven ).
In the 12th century the church probably still had a wooden ceiling, which was replaced by a cross vault . A fire in 1620, among other things, the roof, the spire and the stalls fell victim. Originally the church had a round tower; today's square brick tower was built in 1897 in the neo-Gothic style.
The late Gothic winged altar dates from the 14th century. The pulpit with canopy was created in 1593. The octagonal baroque baptismal font was made in 1644.
The two bells are from 1820 (small) and 1952 (large).
organ
The organ was created by Johann Hinrich Röver in 1895.
