St Margaret's Episcopal Church

The St Margaret's Episcopal Church is a episkopalkirchliches church building in the Scottish village of Aberlour in the Council Area Moray . In 1976 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1987.

history

The church was built in the context of the construction of an orphanage in Aberlour and should serve as a church for the employees there and the orphans. The heiress Margaret Macpherson Grant, residing at Aberlour House , provided the necessary financial means for the construction . The Scottish architect Alexander Ross , based in Inverness , was entrusted with the planning of the building. The foundation stone was laid on September 29, 1875. After Macpherson Grant's death, William Grant of Elchies took over the financing. On November 23, 1879, St Margaret's Church was finally completed.

In Newcastle -based glass artist G. J. Baguley created the 1887-1907 leaded windows . The baptismal font with marble applications was installed in 1900. The orphanage was finally closed in 1967 and the buildings demolished. The Scottish Episcopal Church subsequently took over the church building. The restoration was completed in 2012 thanks to the provision of financial resources by Historic Scotland , the Heritage Lottery Fund and donations from parishioners.
