The Grünfeld stadium is the home ground of the football club FC Rapperswil-Jona from the Challenge League and is located in Jona in the canton of St. Gallen .
It is part of the Grünfeld sports complex, which, in addition to the soccer stadium, consists of other sports facilities (including soccer , athletics , fistball , tennis , volleyball , boccia and beach volleyball ). The stadium was opened in summer 2004, the first game took place between the German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen and the French Ligue 1 representative Olympique Lyon , which ended in a 3-3 draw.
Location and transport links
The stadium is located in the southeast of the city of Rapperswil-Jona , more precisely in the pasture district of the Jona district. The Jona flows east of the complex . In the immediate vicinity is the Grünfeld bus stop, which is served by lines 991 and 992. The Blumenau train station, which is served by the Regio-Express, is located next to it. Parking spaces are available around the Grünfeld sports complex.
Stadium capacity
After the rise of the FCRJ in the 2016/17 season, a demarcated guest sector with standing room was built for the following season. This and the other standing room sectors together offer space for 2,400 spectators, with 300 spectators in the grandstand. For cup games, the club is installing additional stands in the standing area, allowing up to 5,000 spectators to enter the stadium.
