course
The Stadtbach rises just north of the Montabaurer district Horressen on a western branch of the Montabaurer heights from several source rivers. From here it flows east to Montabaur, where the Biebrichsbach flows in from the right, and runs from below the Jewish cemetery and the western foothills of the Quendelberg along Fröschpfortstraße towards the old town. Shortly before the Kalbswiese parking lot, the piping of the brook begins (at a total of 1,600 m), and after a few meters the Stadtbach splits into a brook on the left called the Gäulsbach and on the right called the Färberbach. Both streams flow north from here and pass near the Biergasse the still preserved city walls of Montabaur, whereby the Gäulsbach near the former gate of the tower on the Biergasse (today's Wilhelm-Mangels-Straße) and the Färberbach near the former Fröschpforte (the today's Hospitalstrasse). The name given to the Färberbach was the wool weaver's house on Hospitalstrasse, and the horse sponges near today's Konrad-Adenauer-Platz for the Gäulsbach. Both streams meet again within the former city walls behind the Steinweg and leave the former city walls near the former tower at Eschelbacher Graben in the west of the old town. The Stadtbach then flows further north, flows around Montabaur Castle and turns to the southeast. It meets the Aubach after approx. 600 m from the right and both flow as Gelbach to the southeast.
