The city church

The town church of Orlamünde , St. Marien, is located in Orlamünde in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Orlamünde in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The church was surrounded by a cemetery , which is now located in front of the upper town gate. The city church was on one floor modest increase in the Saaletalabhänge of that in Orlamünde west castle Orlamünde and still existing Kemenate Orlamünde built. She also represented for the high nobility , later for the people.

history

This church was probably built in the 11th century. Builders were then probably the Counts of Orlamünde . The church was the main church in the area. She was also elected by the Archbishop of Mainz Konrad I von Wittelsbach for this function in 1194. The lower part of the church tower is said to date from the 12th century. It was topped up in 1504, but the tower hood was not put on until 1651.

In 1523 the reformer Karlstadt in Orlamünde pushed through the Reformation , but fell out with Martin Luther . Luther made sure that Karlstadt had to leave Orlamünde in 1524. The memorial stone for Karlstadt in front of the church was donated in the summer of 1989.

The longhouse

The nave was built in 1767/68. The organ prospectus dates back to 1782. The sacristy is located in an annex on the south side and the memorial for the fallen of World War II on the north side . The baptismal font is from the Middle Ages . There are four bronze bells . The smallest bell is from the 14th century.
