City Church of St. Maria Magdalena

The Evangelical Lutheran town church St. Maria Magdalena stands above the market in Leutenberg , a country town in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in Thuringia . The parish Leutenberg belongs to the parish Leutenberg in Kirchenkreis Rudolstadt-Saalfeld the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The church was built from 1812 to 1815 after a city ​​fire . The rectangular hall church has the steeple in the west . The west-facing interior has two-storey galleries . It is covered with a flat ceiling. The church furnishings include a simple pulpit altar from the construction period. A carved figure, created around 1510/12, shows Christ at rest . It is attributed to Hans Gottwalt von Lohr from Saalfeld.

The organ with 25 registers , divided into 3 manuals and pedal , was built in 1885 by Karl Friedrich Peternell, rebuilt in 1895 by Oscar Ladegast and restored in 1980 by Schönefeld Organ Builders.
