The silo built in 1923 at the former free port on Harniskai (2013)

The Stadtspeicher in Flensburg - Fruerlund is located directly on the waterfront of the Flensburg harbor . It is one of the city's cultural monuments .

background

The granary was built in 1923 as a municipal granary based on plans by Paul Ziegler and Theodor Rieve . Due to its location on the east bank near the free port that was set up at the same time , it was subsequently also called the free port silo, with the neighboring Hübsch storage facility (built in 1939) being much closer to the free port area. The address Harniskai 22 was assigned to the city warehouse . During the air raids on Flensburg , the city storage facility or the neighboring Hübsch storage facility or both served as the location for a 2 cm anti-aircraft gun . (The exact position of the flak is unclear.) At the end of the Second World War , the city storage facility was on the edge of the special area Mürwik . Shortly after the war, the city warehouse was badly damaged in the course of the Kielsenger explosion in June 1945 .

In more recent times the silo was also called Habro-Speicher, after the company Habro Flensburg Silo GmbH & Co. KG ; In 1985/1986 the southern part and the southern section of the west facade were renewed in a simple form. The silo's decorative, expressionistically designed frieze has been missing since then. The original clinker-clad roof attachment of the silo was changed considerably in 1993 by a trapezoidal sheet cladding . In 2017 it was proposed to convert the silo into an office building. A year later, the motion was rejected by the Flensburg council parties against the votes of the CDU and FDP . The monument is only to be renovated when an overall plan for the port area is available.

There it is explained that it is an anti-aircraft gun in the Hübsch warehouse.
