BS Energy (official long form: Braunschweiger Versorgungs-AG & Co. KG ) and the associated subsidiaries are active in the fields of electricity, gas, district heating, drinking water, urban drainage, urban lighting and traffic lights and are responsible for network operations in Braunschweig . It also appears as a nationwide electricity provider.

history

The "Braunschweigische Gaserleuchtungsgesellschaft" was founded in 1851. The city water supply was started in 1865. The public power supply network went into operation in 1900 with direct current. In 1901 the Giersberg water tower was built , which still shapes the image of the surrounding district today. From 1924 the district heating network was expanded, which has been operated using combined heat and power since 1931 . In 1938 the plans for the electric street lighting of the city of Braunschweig were drawn up and the individual municipal businesses were merged to form the Braunschweig municipal utilities. In 1943, drinking water was obtained from the Harz for the first time. From 1997 to 2000, subsidiaries were founded for the telecommunications, energy services and energy networks sectors. After the liberalization of the electricity market in 1998, Braunschweiger Versorgungs-AG supplied the first private customer outside of his traditional area on May 1, 1999. Like its sister company, Braunschweiger Verkehrs-AG , Braunschweiger Verkehrs-AG was a 100% subsidiary of Stadtwerke Braunschweig GmbH. Up to 2002 there was a control and profit transfer agreement. The municipal utilities worked “in the name and for the account”. Until 1998 the public utility company appeared to the customer. Then the market communication switched to supply AG. A brand change took place in 2001, the logo color changed from green to blue, accompanied by a more modern font and the introduction of the BS Energy brand.

In 2002 a majority stake in Stadtwerke was sold to the American energy company TXU , whose European company had to file for bankruptcy that same year. In 2005, the shares in TXU were sold to the French environmental service provider Veolia Environnement (Veolia for short) in a public bidding process by the city of Braunschweig . In the same year, the subsidiary SE | BS was founded, which is responsible for urban drainage. After the Braunschweig city lighting was taken over in another bidding process in a consortium with Siemens, the number of employees at BS Energy has grown again to over 1000. The legal form changed in 2006 to an AG & Co. KG.
