The SV Leipzig Nordwest is a German sports club in Leipzig that is mainly dedicated to football. Home is the Willi-Kühn-Sportpark , which offers space for 5000 spectators.

Club development

Like FC Sachsen Leipzig, the club traces its origins back to the sports club Britannia 1899 Leipzig, which was founded on August 30, 1899. SV Tura 1899 Leipzig was formed on November 14, 1938 through several mergers, in which the clubs Leipziger SV 1899 and SV Tura 1932, which were already successful in football, were involved. After the end of the Second World War, the SV Tura was banned by the Soviet authorities with reference to Directive No. 23 of the Allied Control Council of the Occupying Powers in Germany. It was dissolved on January 1, 1946. After the transition phase with loosely structured sports communities, ZSG Industrie Leipzig was created on March 31, 1949 , from which ZSG Industrie Leipzig / Leutzsch department was split off on April 1, 1949. In 1950 the central sports community was transferred to the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Nordwest Leipzig. After changing its name to Motor Nordwest in the meantime, the people of Leipzig returned to the name “steel” in 1953. When the system of company sports associations collapsed after the political change in 1989, the SV Leipzig Nordwest was founded by previous BSG members on July 31, 1990. Between 1991 and 1994 the club was temporarily called SV Oertzen Leipzig.

Football sport development

SV Britannia took part in the soccer championships of the Gau Northwest Saxony at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1920 the SV 1899 was incorporated into the new Gauliga Leipzig, from which it had to relegate in 1923. Until 1932 the 1899ers played in the 1b class of the Gau Nordwestsachsen, then they were promoted to the 1st class of the Großgau Leipzig. After the new division into leagues in 1933, SV 1899 was classified in the Leipzig district class (2nd league) and the newly founded Tura SV in 1932 in the Leipzig district class (3rd league), which was located below. After just one year, Tura was promoted to the district class. 1936 Tura was district class champion and rose to the Gauliga (1st division). After the merger of SV 1899 and Tura 1932, the new SV Tura 1899 took over Gauligaplatz in 1938, which could be maintained until 1942. After relegation and one year district class Tura played two more years in the Gauliga in 1943 and 1944.

From 1945 to 1949, SG Leipzig-Lindenau Aue played on the sports field on Merseburger Strasse as an indirect successor to SV 1899 Leipzig. As a result of the post-war restrictions, the Leipzig area became the highest league. One year within the city (3 seasons), then two years city u. County (2 seasons). In this strong playing environment with all the former top clubs of the Gau Nordwestsachsen u. upcoming Oberliga and GDR league clubs were the 4th / 7th / 5th. Reached place. In 1948/49 Lindenau Aue played in the Leipzig district, with 26 teams, to form the new state league a. finished with 18th place. BSG Stahl Nordwest Leipzig, founded in 1950, took part in the championship of the third-class Leipzig district class in 1950/51 and was classified in the newly formed Leipzig district class (5th league) in 1952. In 1975 they were promoted to the fourth-class Leipzig district class, from which BSG Stahl rose to the Leipzig district league in 1977. A year later, the Leipzig district championship was won in front of Motor Altenburg and promotion to the second-rate GDR league was achieved.

In their first second division season 1978/79 Leipzig had to play two relegation games against relegation with the same points BSG Lok Stendal , which went 1: 1 and 0: 2 to the Stendal. In the district league season 1979/80, Nordwest managed to get up again with a narrow lead over Chemie Markkleeberg . In the second attempt the league succeeded, but in the following season 1981/82 Nordwest Leipzig together with Chemie Zeitz and Empor Halle had to start again in the third division. In the style of an elevator team , the Leipzig team prevailed against Motor Grimma on the last match day and celebrated their third promotion in 1983. A valid from 1984/85, in which the seasons were reduced from five to two, gave the Leipzigers only minimal chances of staying up. This was just missed in 1984 behind Chemie Buna Schkopau with a seventh place. Subsequently, the BSG Stahl remained in the Leipzig district league until the end of the GDR football game operations in 1990.

In the GDR soccer cup , Stahl Nordwest took part in five competitions between 1979 and 1985. Except in 1981, when the intermediate round (3rd stage) was reached, the steelworkers always left after the 1st round. In the first four competitions, the team had qualified as a GDR league team, in 1985 they took part in the GDR-wide competition as the district cup winner. In the 1985 district final , Stahl Nordwest defeated the Chemie Leipzig II team 4-2.

In their last GDR district league season 1989/90, Stahl Nordwest had only reached 12th place, so the successor club SV Nordwest was included in the newly formed fourth-class district league Leipzig. In 1994 the team won the Leipzig District Cup under the name “SV Oertzen” after a 5-2 victory over SpVgg 1899 Leipzig . In the district league, from 1994 6th and since 2008 7th league, the club remained until its relegation after the 2008/09 season. Since then, SV Nordwest has played in the eight-class Leipzig district class.
