Stanislav Letovsky

Stanislav Letovsky (born April 20, 1890 in Omaha , Nebraska , USA as Stanley Jan Letovsky , † September 7, 1965 in Berlin ) was an American composer and pianist of Bohemian origin.

Letovsky received his first lessons from his father, the cellist and composer Stanislav Barta Letovsky . He later studied with Richard Burmester . At the age of 18 he became second Kapellmeister in Kiel . He went on concert tours as a pianist and had positions in Posen and Schwerin . In Vienna he received a scholarship . In 1930 Letovsky returned to his homeland Omaha for health reasons and worked as a teacher and conductor , in between in Kansas City and Denver . After the death of his wife, he made one last trip to Europe in 1965. He died while visiting Berlin. His cremation and the urn transfer to Omaha took place under the supervision of the American Mission in Berlin.

Of his works, the three-act opera Frau Anne and various compositions for violin, piano and voice should be mentioned.
