Stan Wagner
Ulysses Stanley "Stan" Wagner (born March 2, 1908 in Pueblo , Colorado , USA ; † October 11, 2002 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) was a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1932 , he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.
Career
Stan Wagner was born in the USA when his family hoped to find better chances of recovery for his tuberculosis father, but his father died before he was born. Then his family returned to Canada. In the 1930/31 season he won the Allan Cup , the Canadian amateur championship, with the Winnipeg Hockey Club as a substitute goalkeeper for Bill Cockburn . At the 1932 Winter Games, he represented Canada with the Winnipeg Hockey Club. After the tournament he worked as a pilot . In 2004 he was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, which houses numerous personal mementos from Wagner's 1932 Olympic win.
International
For Canada , Wagner took part in the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , where he and his team won the gold medal. In the 10-0 win against Poland , he achieved a shutout .
