Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III - Rebel Strike is a 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube , released Star Wars - computer game and the third part of the Rogue Squadron series . Like the predecessors of Factor 5, it was developed and published by LucasArts . It is the sequel to Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II - Rogue Leader .

The game is essentially an action and shoot 'em up game. The action takes place in the context of the Star Wars films IV , V and VI . As in previous games in the series, the player takes over the control of an elite squadron Rebel Alliance , the renegade squadron (Engl. Rogue Squadron ). In various missions he carries out numerous attacks on targets of the Galactic Empire .

A big innovation compared to its predecessors is the possibility for the player to leave his vehicle during missions and even to control land vehicles. Furthermore, a multiplayer mode has been added, which consists of the levels of the predecessor.

Gameplay

Like its predecessor, the game is predominantly an action-oriented flight game. However, the focus is no longer on star fighter battles, as the player has to complete some missions on foot or with ground vehicles such as tanks.

For the first time in the series, a multiplayer mode was implemented. This consists of two modes, co-op and versus . In co-op mode, two players can replay all but two missions from the predecessor Rogue Leader via split screen . In Versus mode, two players can duel in different ways.

action

The game's campaign begins shortly after the events of A New Hope . It is divided into two parts, Luke Skywalker in one and Wedge Antilles the main character in another .

The Empire has driven the rebels from their base, so they are looking for a suitable location for a new one. Tycho Celchu , an Imperial officer, deserted and joined the rebellion. He moves some scientists to join the alliance, but their escape is prevented by the empire. The renegade squadron is sent to enable the scientists to escape, which they succeed in doing. The Rebel Alliance has now set up its base on the ice planet Hoth. But this base is quickly discovered and attacked by imperial forces. The renegade squadron tries to distract the Imperials from the destruction of the base until their cargo ships have taken off. The first part of the campaign ends with this battle.

Under the new command of Wedge Antilles, the Renegade Squadron carries out an attack on a prison facility on Bakura in order to free some rebels. She manages to get the rebels to a transporter, but it is boarded by an Imperial ship shortly after takeoff. Alliance pilots are chasing this ship as far as Geonosis . There they are ambushed and can barely make an emergency landing on the planet. There they discover some abandoned factories and old military equipment that they can use to distract the Imperials and flee.

During their escape, the pilots receive clues that the Empire has discovered and destroyed parts of the rebel fleet. In response, the renegade squadron is dispatched to attack the Fondor shipyards .

The Alliance then conducts a major attack on Endor , where a new Death Star is being built under the supervision of the Emperor. In this attack, the player takes on the role of Luke Skywalker again, but also that of Han Solo and Chewbacca and prepares the attack of the rebel fleet on the battle station by acts of sabotage on the planet's surface, which is successful.
