This Star Wars Game is an arcade game with color vector graphics , which in 1983 by Atari was made. It is based on the movie Star Wars and is a 3D space shooter. Star Wars was the first Atari game with voice acting.

Game description

The player takes on the role of Luke Skywalker and mainly has to shoot down enemy units in his X-Wing Star Fighter. In contrast to most other games, not every opponent has to be destroyed, it is enough if the opponent is incapacitated. The game has three different sections:

  • In the first part the player has to compete in space, above the Death Star, against Darth Vader and opposing TIE fighters in an aerial combat .
  • In the second section he reaches the Death Star and has to destroy the laser towers to collect bonus points. It is quite difficult to maneuver between them.
  • At the end he has to fly in a narrow canyon, similar to a corridor, and avoid obstacles and enemy fire (in the form of stars). Both these and the firing systems can be shot on the left and right. At the end of the corridor, he has to fly low and escape through the ventilation shaft and shoot a torpedo to destroy the Death Star. When this is done, the game starts with an increased level of difficulty.

graphic

Although raster graphics games had been around for a number of years , color vector graphics were used. This offers a simpler graphic, but a faster calculation. The black background predominates, and there are mostly white and yellow lines ( vectors ).

Sound

Star Wars was the first Atari game with voice acting. Short original speech sequences from the film with voices from Mark Hamill , Alec Guinness , James Earl Jones and Harrison Ford were used. There were also noises from R2-D2 as well as the original title melody of the film (the latter was digitally synthesized). In addition, the sound is already in stereo and is digitized and stored on the ROM chips .

Trivia

In the Killer List of Videogames (KLOV), the game ranks fourth as the most popular game of all time. In addition to the upright housing shown, there was also a cockpit version in which the player could take a seat.
