The reservoir is located in a semi-desert area on the north side of the High Atlas Mountains, about 50 km (driving distance) northeast of Demnate in the province of Azilal in the region Beni Mellal-Khénifra .

History and function

The dam was built in the 1980s and is used to irrigate an area of ​​around 40,000 ha as well as to supply water and generate electricity . The hydropower plant has a Francis turbine with an output of 67.2 MW. This can generate 132 GWh of electricity per year . It was put into operation in 1991.
