Steeler was a German heavy metal band from the 1980s. The band name referred to a song by Judas Priest .

history

Steeler were founded in 1980 in Bochum by guitarist Axel Rudi Pell and bassist Volker Krawczak . The band initially played a traditional, hard metal style in the wake of Accept and the Scorpions . After various line-up changes, singer Peter Burtz , guitarist Tom Eder from Fallen Angel and drummer Jan Yildiral from Avenger joined the band. After the first demos, which earned plenty of advance praise across Europe, including in Tony Jasper's legendary HM show, the debut album, simply called Steeler , came out on the Earthshaker label in 1984 under the direction of producer Axel Thubeauville . Thus the band sat at the top of the German metal scene together with Warlock , Grave Digger , Avenger (now Rage) and Running Wild . Three more albums and numerous concerts, festivals and tours followed. The third album, Strike Back , is her most successful to date and contains many classics such as Waiting for a Star or Night after Night . With the fourth album, Undercover Animal , the style should become more suitable for the masses. Despite a successful tour with the English metal band Saxon in 1988, disagreements arose within the band. This tour was also the last. After Jan Yildiral and Axel Rudi Pell left the company and one last attempt at comeback in Bochum, Steeler finally broke up in 1989.

Reunion appearance

In 2014 the band Steeler performed again at an Axel Rudi Pell & Friends evening at the Bang Your Head Festival in Balingen. There were Peter Burtz, Axel Rudi Pell, Tom Eder, Jan Yildiral and the bassists Volker Krawczak and Roland Hag ( Ax Victims ). The band opened the concert. The four songs Call Her Princess , Night After Night , Rockin 'the City and Undercover Animal were played .

Careers of members after dissolution

Pell continued his musical career successfully with his own band .

Singer Peter Burtz took over the position of editor- in- chief at Metal Hammer and later appeared as an EMI manager and successful comedy producer - he ran the Gerd show together with Elmar Brandt, among others .

Drummer Jan Yildiral played in other bands such as Darxon , with whom he recorded the record Shout in 1992 . Later he built up a tourism and event company (Check-In Reisecenter / Herne) in Florida , USA and since 1992 also in Germany. His current German band is called Morgenstein.

Volker Krawczak, the first bass player, is now playing with Axel Rudi Pell in his ARP project.

Tom Eder works as a freelance journalist and is a guitarist in a band.

Roland Hag, who was the bass player for Steeler from 1987 to 1989, is now (April 2015) editor-in-chief of the women's magazine Neue Post and plays in the band Cash Only.
