Stefan Ambrosius

Stefan Ambrosius (* 1976 in Trier , Rhineland-Palatinate ) is a German tuba player .

Life

He received his first tenor horn lessons from his father at the age of 12 and switched to the tuba at the age of 16 . He began studying music with Lennart Nord in Saarbrücken in 1999 and then studied with Stefan Heimann in Stuttgart , where he graduated in 2005 with a diploma.

As a student he was a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the International Bach Academy Stuttgart and had a temporary contract at the Stuttgart State Opera (2001 to 2005). As a temporary worker he was a guest a. with the Vienna Philharmonic under Riccardo Muti , the Munich Philharmonic under Christian Thielemann and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , as well as at numerous opera houses in Germany. Since 2005 he has had a permanent position at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. In 2011 he is also a member of the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival .

From 2006 to 2015 he had a teaching position at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart .

In addition to his orchestral work, he was also active in chamber music, for example as a permanent member of the Ludwigsburg Brass Quintet (LBQ) and as a guest of the HR-Brass ensemble . In German Brass he has since 2007 been a member. He is also a member of Operabrass .

As a member of the Ludwigsburg Brass Quintet, he made several CD recordings. At German Brass he recorded the CDs In Concert , Fascination Bach , Celebrating Wagner , Fantastic Moments , Bach on Brass and Rhapsody .

With German Brass, Stefan Ambrosius appears as solo tuba player at renowned music festivals. In the summer of 2008 he was a guest tuba soloist with German Brass at the Flanders Festival in Belgium.
