Stefan Batan (born March 20, 1985 ) is a Swedish football player of Assyrian origin. The defender made two appearances in the Swedish U-21 team in 2005 .

Career

Batan began his career with Assyriska Föreningen , where he made his debut in the 2003 season in the Superettan . Although at the end of the 2004 season actually only become third in the table, the team played in the 2005 season in the Allsvenskan , as Örebro SK 's license had been revoked. So Batan came to his first appearances in the Swedish House of Lords after 31 second division games. With 22 games this season he was one of the regular players, but could not prevent the direct relegation. Nevertheless, he was briefly used in the Swedish U21 selection, but could not establish himself in the team for a long time after two appearances.

At the end of the 2005 season, Batan sparked some discussion in Swedish football. AIK Solna already announced the change of the player who had verbally agreed. A few days later, however, he signed a contract with arch-rivals Djurgårdens IF . He said that as a child he had dreamed of playing for DIF one day.

At DIF Batan fought with Tobias Hysén for a regular place as a winger in the 4-3-3 system practiced by the club, but could not prevail. Even after Hysén's departure in August 2006, he was unable to secure a regular place. In the 2007 season he therefore played eleven of his 13 appearances as a substitute. Also in the following year he could not play in the starting eleven and was awarded to his mother club Assyriska FF in the Superettan to collect match practice. After a year and a half loan from the Swedish second division team, he moved to the club in January 2010, where he signed a two-year contract. He had initially played with the club for the return to the Allsvenskan, he placed regularly from the second division season 2011 in the middle of the table. He was used as a regular player in most games, in the four seasons after his permanent commitment, the team captain of the second division missed only 15 of 120 games this season.

In January 2014 Assyriska FF sold Batan to league rivals Hammarby IF . Under coach Nanne Bergstrand he was also a regular at his new club, in 27 league games he contributed to the Allsvenskan promotion of the Stockholm club as champions of the second division season in 2014 . In the course of the 2015 season , however, he lost his regular seat and was subsequently only used irregularly - partly due to injury. Nevertheless, at the end of 2016, shortly after coach Bergstrand was relieved of his office, he extended his contract for another season, the agreement also included an extension option for another year. Even under Bergstrand's successor Jakob Michelsen , however, he was only second choice for most of the time.
