Stefan Gruhner (born October 23, 1984 in Schleiz ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2010 to 2019 he was state chairman of the Junge Union in Thuringia . From 2014 to 2019 he was a member of the Thuringian State Parliament .

Professional background

After graduating from high school in 2003 at the Dr.-Konrad-Duden-Gymnasium Schleiz , Gruhner did his military service from 2003 to 2004 with the 722 pioneer battalion in Gera . He then began studying politics and history at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , which he graduated with the state examination in 2010 . In addition, he completed his studies at Quadriga University Berlin in 2016/17 and completed this with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

From 2010 to 2013 he was a consultant for fundamental political issues at the CDU regional association in Thuringia . From August 2013, until his election to the Thuringian state parliament, he was personal advisor to the Thuringian Minister-President Christine Lieberknecht in the Thuringian State Chancellery. Since January 2019 Gruhner has been working as the head of the staff unit “Future of the People's Party / Federal-State Coordination / International Party Relations” in the federal office of the CDU in Germany.

Gruhner joined the Junge Union in 1999 and the CDU in 2002. From 2006 to 2010 he was a member of the federal executive committee of the Junge Union Deutschlands. He became CDU district chairman in the Saale-Orla district in 2009 and was state chairman of the Junge Union from 2010 to 2019. During his studies he joined the Teutonia Jena fraternity .

Gruhner has been a member of the Saale-Orla district council since 2004. From 2009 to 2012 he was chairman of the district council for education, culture and sport; In 2012 he became chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. In the state elections in Thuringia in 2014 , he won the direct mandate in the constituency of Saale-Orla-Kreis I and entered the Thuringian state parliament. From 2018 to 2019 he was chairman of the International Commission of the Young Union of Germany for Foreign, European and Security Policy.

In July 2017, Gruhner came out as homosexual.

Since November 2018 he has been Vice Chairman of the International Young Democrat Union . In January 2019 he announced his candidacy for the federal chairmanship of the Junge Union to succeed Paul Ziemiak . In the election at the extraordinary party congress on March 16, he was defeated by Tilman Kuban .

In the state elections in Thuringia in 2019 , Gruhner lost the direct mandate in his constituency Saale-Orla-Kreis I to the AfD candidate, the state list of his party was not taken into account due to the number of direct mandates.
