Stefan Heine (born January 8, 1969 in Eckernförde ) is a German puzzle maker and publisher of puzzle books and magazines.

Life and career

Growing up in Eckernförde, Stefan Heine studied business administration and law at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel after graduating from the Jungmannschule in 1988 .

Together with David Halenta he founded the market research institute Heine-Halenta Gesellschaft für Marktforschung, Feldservice und Outlet Control mbh in Hamburg in 1994. In 1995, at the same time, he set up the Press Service Stefan Heine, of which he has been the sole owner since 1998.

Stefan Heine lives in Hamburg with his wife and three children.

Since 1995, Stefan Heine has primarily been supplying print media with different puzzle formats for children and adults. The print run of all puzzles produced by Presse Service Heine in one month was over 300 million copies worldwide at the end of 2018 / beginning of 2019.

Stefan Heine developed more than 100 types of puzzles for print and online media, including: Arrow Words , Sudoku , Kakuro , Killer Sudoku , Battleship , word games and celebrity puzzle. He has been producing Sudokus since 1999 and has made a significant contribution to their dissemination in Germany. As one of the first puzzle makers, he offered these puzzles to publishers. One of the first newspapers in Germany that he convinced of this form of puzzle was Die Welt am Sonntag. In 2005 he published the first German Sudoku magazine "Sudoku genial". Heine has been a publisher himself since 2006 and publishes the “Heine's Rätselbibliothek” series, which currently comprises 50 volumes and is constantly being expanded. He also creates puzzle books for other publishers such as Ravensburger , Edel / Moewig, Coppenrath Verlag , Moses. Publishing house and calendar for teNeues , Korsch and Harenberg publishing houses . Several puzzle magazines advertise his picture and name on their covers.

In 2005, the resident of Hamburg invented the German Sudoku Championships and has been creating puzzles in whole or in part since then. In 2009 he created all of the Sudokus for the US National Championship. In 2010, Stefan Heine was co-puzzle author of the Sudoku World Championships in Philadelphia. The world's largest Sudoku tournament in Vienna was held from 2005 to 2010 with puzzles by Stefan Heine, as was the East Asian championships on January 22, 2017 at the Seoul National University in Korea. Heine is the official captain of the German Sudoku national team, which became world champions in 2010 and 2011.

During the ZDF TV Garden on July 2, 2017, Stefan Heine was co-host of Andrea Kiewel and set an official Guinness world record during the broadcast. For this purpose, parts of the audience of almost 5,000 were asked to solve one of Heine's crossword puzzles at the same time. A new world record was set with 609 compliant participants.

Stefan Heine imparts his know-how in puzzle workshops. He regularly organizes puzzle evenings on his Facebook page, where he looks for ways to reinterpret the subject of puzzles.
