Stefan Kaskel (born February 24, 1969 in Bonn ) is a German chemist .

Life

Stefan Kaskel studied chemistry from 1990 to 1995 at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . He wrote his diploma thesis in 1995 on the subject: "Experiments to prepare nitride fluorides of the elements tungsten and manganese " with Joachim Straehle . At the end of his studies he did his doctorate on the subject: “In situ powder diffractometry for the investigation of ammonolysis and hydrolysis reactions ” again with Strähle with summa cum laude. For this dissertation he received the Young Scientist Award of the European Powder Diffraction Conference in Parma , Italy in 1997 .

From 1998 to 2000, as part of the Feodor Lynen Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , he investigated the " synthesis , structure and bonding in anionic clusters of the heavy triels gallium , indium and thallium " at the Ames Laboratory of the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the Iowa State University in Ames , Iowa .

He then completed his habilitation until 2003 on the subject of "Design and Function of Novel Porous Materials" at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research in Mülheim an der Ruhr and the Ruhr University Bochum with Ferdi Schüth . During this time, he also worked as a group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research and in 2002 received the BMBF Young Talent Award in Nanotechnology . Since June 1, 2004, he has held the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry I ( C4 professorship) at the TU Dresden . He is co-editor of the Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology , a member of the GDCh and the American Chemical Society .

For 2016 he was awarded the JSPS Award from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
