Stefan Kreiner (born October 30, 1973 in Feldkirch ) is a former Austrian Nordic combined athlete . His greatest achievement was winning the bronze medal in the team competition at the 1992 Winter Olympics .

Career

Stefan Kreiner attended the ski school in Schruns and the ski high school in Stams . Initially focused on alpine skiing , he switched to Nordic combined at the age of 14. In the 1989/90 season he achieved several top 10 results in the Austria Cup, but had to pause for a while after two torn ligaments (he suffered another torn ligament on September 10, 2011 at the Hypo football championships in Kematen, where he also took third place). The next winter he was fourth in the Alpine Cup .

From the winter of 1991/92 Kreiner was also used in the B-World Cup, where he achieved his best result with second place in Predazzo on December 15, 1991. He then made his debut on January 11, 1992 in Breitenwang in the A-World Cup , where he immediately reached eleventh place. A week later he finished 17th in Murau and shortly afterwards he became Austrian Junior Champion. With these achievements he was accepted into the Austrian team for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville . There he first achieved 17th place in the individual (together with the Czech Josef Kovařík ) and six days later won the bronze medal in the team competition together with Klaus Ofner and Klaus Sulzenbacher . He then finished twelfth in the individual and sixth with the team at the Junior World Championships in Vuokatti in 1992 .

In the following years, however, Kreiner was unable to follow up on these results. In both the A World Cup and the B World Cup, he did not achieve any top placements and so he ended his career in 1995.
