Stefan Obermaier

Stefan Obermaier (born January 8, 1981 ) is an Austrian electronic musician , music producer and DJ .

Obermaier, who comes from Schwarzach im Pongau ( Salzburg ), has lived in Vienna since 2001 . His music spans different styles of house , from downbeat / dub to electronica .

Life and work

At the age of five, Obermaier got his first keyboard from his parents. Since the 1990s he has played in various funk / jazz combos . In 1997 and 1998 he and his school band won the Austrian Band Contest twice in a row with their own compositions. At the same time, he was one of the pioneers of live performing electronic musicians in Salzburg at a young age. At that time, when there were still no musically functional laptops , he was one of the few who carried large floor-standing computers with them and installed them repeatedly in the various venues for their performances.

After graduating from high school and doing civilian service in 2001, he moved to Vienna to study musicology, but after signing his first record contract, he left the university after completing four semesters in order to concentrate only on his musical work.

Obermaier's first official publications were on the compilations of the Viennese label "Vienna Scientists". He continued working with remixes for M , Mark Murphy and Supermax , among others .

At the same time, Obermaier started a series of arrangements of classical music on the initiative of Universal Music , which were crowned gold in Austria at the first attempt with the album "iMozart" (2005) . In 2008 the musician developed his personal “Classic Reloaded Project”, in which he further worked on the fusion of his own electronic music with works by great classical composers. “Beethoven Reloaded” (2008) was followed by “Mozart Reloaded” (2012).

Obermaier has its own permanent sound exhibition room in the world's first sound museum, the Vienna House of Music .

In 2012 Obermaier and his partner Zwetelina Angelova founded their own label - "Drift Recordings" - with the first release "Bagana EP" (2012) and the single "Traveler", which made the top 10 German (DCC) and British (Cool Cuts) Club Charts.
