Stefan Richter (born January 2, 1980 in Essen ) is a German composer , music producer , sound designer and guitarist for the band Beloved Enemy . In 2007 he became known to a wider public under the stage name Chai Deveraux as the guitarist of the bands Jesus on Extasy , Beloved Enemy and Black Messiah .

Life

Stefan Richter was born on January 2nd, 1980 in Essen , where he spent his childhood and youth. By attending a musical high school that cooperates closely with the Folkwang University of the Arts , music was a constant companion from an early age. After studying sound engineering , Stefan Richter worked as a sound engineer and sound designer , increasingly in the areas of musicals and variety shows .

Stefan Richter has lived and worked in Hamburg since 2016 .

Musical career

At the age of 26, Stefan Richter founded the industrial rock band Jesus on Extasy together with the singer and songwriter Simon Rahm under the pseudonyms Chai Deveraux and Dorian Deveraux , in which Richter mainly worked as a guitarist and songwriter. The band quickly achieved a high level of awareness , especially in the alternative and gothic scene. After a performance at the Bochum Total Festival 2006, the record company Drakkar -Records became aware of the band that signed the band in the same year. Shortly before the release of the second album, Richter joined the band Beloved Enemy as a guitarist , in which he is still active today. With Beloved Enemy he released two albums: "Enemy Mine" (2007), "Thank you for the pain" (2011). With Stefan Richter as guitarist, Jesus On Extasy released four albums: "Holy Beauty" (2007), "Beloved Enemy" (2008), "No Gods" (2010), "The Clock" (2011). In January 2012 Stefan Richter announced that he would put the band on hold for an indefinite period.

In his recording studio, Richter produced various albums for various artists under his pseudonym, mostly from the Gothic and Metal scene. In addition, he distinguished himself for the remix work, some of which reached the top ten of the independent charts .

In 2011, Richter and his musician friend Nicolay Frank were nominated under his pseudonym for her work on the short film "Reicher wake up" at the 2880 Grand Prix Du Film in the category "Best Original Film Music" and finally received an award.

In 2012 Stefan Richter was on tour as a sound engineer with the band Black Messiah and still produced the album "The Final Journey" under the pseudonym Chai Deveraux. For the following tour Richter jumped in as guitarist for Black Messiah , but got out again in 2014 for organizational reasons.

In 2018 it became known that Stefan Richter was hired as composer for the musical show "Steampunk Circus", which has been seen on board the cruise ship AIDAnova since the premiere in March 2019 .
