Stefan Schweizer

Stefan Schweizer (* 1968 in Eisenach ) is Scientific Director of the Benrath Palace and Park Foundation and honorary professor at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf .

education

From 1992 to 1997 he studied art history , history and sociology at the Universities of Kassel , Göttingen and Verona . His master's thesis on architecture by Michele Sanmicheli was awarded the Italian Prize of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Germany in 1998 . From 1998 to 2000 he was a scholarship holder of the Gerda Henkel Foundation . In 2001 he received his doctorate from the University of Kassel.

Professional background

From 2000 to 2005 he worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for History in Göttingen and then received a junior professorship for art history with a focus on "European garden art history", an endowed professorship on garden art in the city of Düsseldorf , at the institute for art history at the university there.

In 2009 he was a research fellow at the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel , and from 2010 to 2012 he was head of the working group “History of garden art in Germany”. In 2011 he completed his habilitation The Birth of Garden Art. Autonomy of the genre - history of discourse - claim to work of art (1550–1730) at the Philosophical Faculty of Heinrich Heine University. Since the end of 2012 he has been scientific director of the Benrath Palace and Park Foundation.
