Stefan Sixt

Stefan Sixt (born July 26, 1955 in Munich ), cultural manager and publicist , has been committed to contemporary dance education and the development of institutional structures for contemporary dance in Germany for over 20 years .

Sixt was one of the world's most successful ski acrobats for almost a decade during the 1970s before studying political science in Munich . Since 1983 he has headed the Munich Iwanson School of Contemporary Dance , which, under his aegis, has developed into one of the major institutions for contemporary dance education in Europe over the course of two decades. In 1987 he made a significant contribution to the founding of the Munich choreographers' association Tanztendenz München , of which he was a member of the board for many years. In 1997, together with Walter Heun , he initiated the founding of the Bavarian State Association for Contemporary Dance eV (BLZT) , of which he is still a member of the board today. In 2007 Sixt founded the Iwanson Sixt Foundation for Contemporary Dance together with Jessica Iwanson . As a foundation board member, Sixt acts as a networker for the improvement of the situation of young dancers as well as for the qualitative and structural development of contemporary dance education. Under the programmatic title of 'Young Dance', he worked in Munich a. a. with the cultural department of the city, the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz , the Gasteig München GmbH and the Jewish community launched a concerted effort to promote young contemporary dance to life. In addition to youth and young talent issues, Sixt is involved in issues of social security for dance professionals and, with the support of the BLZT and the Standing Conference on Dance, in cooperation with the insurance industry, is developing the 'artist pension' project for individual retirement provision for artists. In this context, he initiated the foundation of the Social Association of Art and Culture Creators (SKK) in 2011, to whose board he was elected. Sixt has published regularly in the trade journal 'dance for you magazine' since 2003. In addition to general dance reports from the Bavarian capital, he comments in the column 'Stefan Sixt Spezial' in a mostly cheerful way about the situation and working conditions in the field of contemporary dance.
