Stefan Stößel

Stefan Stößel (* 1970 in Bad Salzungen ) is a German painter and graphic artist. He lives and works in Leipzig .

life and work

Stefan Stößel studied painting and graphics with Arno Rink from 1991 to 1998 at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig . In 2000, Stößel began his master class studies with Astrid Klein at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig for three years . He then worked from 2005 to 2008 as an academic assistant to Neo Rauch at the University of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig. Since 1994 the painter has been using his studio in the Leipzig cotton spinning mill, which later became known as an art and cultural site . In 1998 he was one of the founding members of the producer gallery Kunstraum b2, which is now known as Galerie b2 and at that time was the first on-site exhibition and gallery space.

Stößel's diverse thematic and formal interests led to a stylistically diverse, sometimes antagonistic work. After researching and adapting broad art-historical areas in his early work, there has been a stronger turn to the still life genre since 2003 .
