Stefan Weckbach

Stefan Weckbach (born June 18, 1949 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German diplomat and has been Consul General in Chennai since 2011 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Offenbach am Main, Weckbach studied economics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main between 1967 and 1972 and graduated in 1972 with a degree in economics . He then worked from 1972 to 1977 as a research assistant at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and then until 1980 at a tax consulting office in Offenbach am Main. During this time he put in 1980 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University and his doctorate Dr. rer. pole. with a dissertation on the subject of political and economic investigation of the emergence and management of urban problems .

In 1980 he joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his career examination in 1982, was initially employed at the Federal Ministry of Economics in Bonn and then from 1983 to 1986 at the Embassy in Uruguay before he worked at the Embassy in Hungary until 1989 . After his return he worked in the Foreign Office in Bonn until 1990 and was then given leave of absence until 1992 to work as an employee of the SPD parliamentary group .

In 1992 he returned to the diplomatic service and was initially permanent representative of the Consul General in Rio de Janeiro until 1994 and then from 1994 to 1997 head of a working group in the Foreign Office. After a subsequent assignment at the embassy in Argentina , Weckbach was Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission to UNESCO in Paris between 2001 and 2004 . He then worked at the embassy in Spain until 2008 and was permanent representative of the ambassador in Sri Lanka between 2008 and 2011 .

Since August 2011, Dr. Stefan Weckbach Consul General in Chennai. As such, he was one among others to the participants of an event of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation with the Director of the European Center for Energy and Resource Security (EUCERS) at King's College London , Friedbert Pflüger , on energy and economic cooperation with India. and the Indo-German Automotive Industry Forum in Chennai.
